Join us as we launch AIGA LA Studio Tours as part of a hands-on experience series where we will open the doors to creative shops around town. Come meet the makers and owners who set the tone for design across our city while learning about their trades in the spaces where they create!
Our first visit will be to
Print Renegades, screen printing extraordinaires who provide top-notch custom apparel printing services to LA and beyond. They specialize in superior quality screen and DTG printing, embroidery, and similar customization services for t-shirts, hats, and posters.
Meet owner JD Nielsen who will tell you about his humble beginnings when he bought a sewing machine to create art on t-shirts by sewing on patches, tracing magazine photos with thread, and using an array of hand-cut stencils. Today, Print Renegades has evolved into a platform for entrepreneurs and urban creators to bring their ideas to life on apparel and paper.
We’ll tour the space, learn the process, and each take a turn printing a custom shirt (included with purchase of ticket). Come get your hands dirty with us!
ABOUT PRINT RENEGADES
For over a decade, Print Renegades has been providing top-notch custom apparel printing services to satisfied customers in the Los Angeles area and beyond. Originally in film school, JD Nielsen and a friend bought a sewing machine and started to create art on t-shirts by sewing on patches, tracing magazine photos with thread, and using an array of hand-cut stencils. They purchased a small, single-arm screen printing press to print their unique, one-of-a-kind designs on their own garments.
Once they established their clothing line, 7Lightningbolt*, they saw the need to buy even more of their own printing equipment. When the equipment came, so did their musician and artist friends, asking if they could help print merch for their own tours, art, and more. This ultimately grew into what Print Renegades is today: a platform for idealistic entrepreneurs and urban creators in our city to have a way to bring their ideas to life on apparel or paper. Print Renegades loves to help the creative at heart since that is what they are!
