DISTINC MANIFESTO
We believe cause-based organizations deserve better. We dedicate our practice to branding, promoting, and raising awareness for causes that inspire people to act. When budgets are limited and media is everywhere, the impact of good design and clear communication is what elevates a memorable cause above the clutter. We know sophisticated strategies are no longer optional. ‘Good enough’ is no longer good enough. Therefore, we commit to deliver better communication for a better world.
Jean-Marc Durviaux
CEO / Creative Director
As CEO of DISTINC, Durviaux provides leadership for our firm, and as creative director, he provides strategic and creative guidance to all of our clients.
Jean-Marc Durviaux has been a specialist in visual communication for almost 20 years. Belgian-born, he studied advertising in Brussels where he graduated with honors at Le Centre des Arts Décoratifs. He began his career as a junior art director at LHHS working on accounts such as Spa Reine (mineral water), RTBF (National Public Radio), and RMB (Belgian Television Media). He moved on to the Euro-RSCG group and developed campaigns for Thalys (high-speed train), Mobistar, Peugeot automobiles, and Kodak.
His curiosity brought him to the U.S. where he first worked as a freelance art director for clients such as Disney, Mattel, MGM, and Toyota. He founded DISTINC — a California corporation — in 2000.
Durviaux has an idealistic approach to design and communication. He has a strong belief that design not only plays an integral part in today’s business, but also an important role in our society. He is convinced that good design can change behavior. Jean-Marc has helped many clients successfully position their brands, define their marketing strategies, and articulate visual language to successfully reach their goals. He has also been very active in helping numerous social and environmental organizations spell out communication strategies and raise awareness about our responsibilities as good citizens.
Jean-Marc Durviaux’s work has been nationally and internationally recognized, and has been honored by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Type Directors Club of New York, the Creative Club of Belgium, the British Photography Academy, Print magazine, Rockport publishing and Rotovision for art direction, typographic excellence, and for environmental leadership in the practice of graphic design.
