In the food-focused month of November, AIGA LA presents a workshop led by Chelsea Hurd, a professional graphic designer and art aficionado, as she teaches us her method for visually capturing the flavors of food.
Chelsea will guide an intimate group of design learners through a workshop centered around design decision making for a client-based pursuit effort, including content development, color selection, and composition. She will share her process from start to finish as it includes contour drawing, color blocking, palette development and why she leveraged local produce as her graphics subject.
Each attendee will be asked to bring their creative digital tools, be it a laptop, Wacom tablet, Apple iPad, or otherwise - in addition to a picture of a food item (or few to select from) that reminds them of the upcoming holiday season.
With the introduction of AI, there are all sorts of shortcuts and tools available to produce "AI Artwork" with the click of a button - but the one thing each AI product lacks is the human touch and element of artistic expression that comes through hand drawing, which this session will explore.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Chelsea Hurd is a digital designer, visual communicator, and serial hobbyist. Chelsea is a professional graphic designer seated on the Marketing Team at Gensler Los Angeles, where she creates graphics, campaigns, and experiences for unique brands with a positive mission.
Chelsea is a maker, designing all things from logos to ceramic bowls to hand-knit sweaters to Instagram graphics and websites. Regardless of the medium, she is passionate about any project that allows her to make something that will have an impact, especially when it involves art, education, and function.
She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art and Master’s Degree from Syracuse University’s Multimedia, Photography and Design program in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
