How does purpose affect leadership? What is the impact on teams and companies when their leaders define success and measure outcome on purpose? In this panel conversation, moderated by AIGA LA President Amanda Hovest, designers Simrit Brar, Sheharazad Fleming and Shannon Gabor share their paths of personal & professional growth, while building adaptive mindsets and disruptive intentions through purposeful creative leadership.

ABOUT SIMRIT BRAR
Simrit Brar is a Los Angeles based Creative Director/ Designer who consults with various companies, startups, and entrepreneurs, through her consultancy Flying Squirrel, helping them build and transform their businesses, through design. The first decade of Simrit’s design life was in India, where she grew up, the next in NY and LA. Till recently she built and led the design discipline at Phenomenon. Simrit is also credited with bringing a new sensibility to key art in India, with campaigns for 50+ movies. She holds an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons, NY and was featured in AdWeek’s Creative 100 ’17.

ABOUT SHEHARAZAD FLEMING
Sheharazad Fleming is Creative Director of Otis College of Art and Design, the first independent art school established in Los Angeles. She specializes in the practice of creative leadership and design management. Throughout her 20-year career, Sheharazad has successfully launched and directed creative teams in both agency and in-house settings. Drawing from different cultures and personal experience, the Iranian native brings a global perspective to her work. She has taught Design and Brand Strategy internationally, served on the Board of AIGA LA since 2012, and presented on the topic of in-house design leadership at the 2019 AIGA National Design Conference.

ABOUT SHANNON GABOR
Shannon is the entrepreneurial spirit behind female owned and operated, Clever Creative. Driven by curiosity and a desire to make work that supports brands, their big vision and bold ideas, she oversees the new business strategy as well as the direction and growth of her team, capitalizing on her knowledge of what industry experts and audiences are drawn to. Advocating for the human connection in branding, Shannon has taken Clever from backyard office to an award-winning and full-service branding agency that’s proudly supporting iconic brands like Warner Bros., Tastemade, Starbucks and Netflix by finding new and exciting ways to champion unexpected results that delight.

ABOUT AMANDA HOVEST
Amanda Hovest is a designer, storyteller, organizational leader, and facilitator -creating meaningful branded experiences that delight and entertain. For the past eight years, while at KBDA, she has collaborated with clients like Bolthouse Farms, Natural History Museum of LA County, LA Phil, LACMA, SoCal PBS, Henry Ford Museum, and many others. Currently, Amanda serves as president of AIGA Los Angeles and is a member of the Inner-City Arts Young Professional Board – both leading art and design organizations in the LA landscape. Her work has been recognized by the Society for Environmental Graphic Design, the American Alliance of Museums, AIGA and others.
