The US Federal Government is finally protecting the constitutional rights of LGBTQ+ people by the use of executive order. This is the first time in history that the Federal Government has used the power of executive order to protect the LGBTQ+ community, which became a necessity after a series of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation was passed across the US at the State level by local governing officials. This is a major milestone for Queer rights, and will help solidify and maintain equal rights for all people. (Read the full article here by @gaytimes.)

AIGA LA stands with the Queer community and supports equal rights for all, and this #PrideMonth we’re #Proud to present Matheo Cadena’s: “LGBTQ+ Defined.” Follow us on Instagram (@aigalosangeles) to see each graphic of this 9-part series. This project helps create a better understanding of the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community by answering the question so many people ask, “What does the acronym mean?”

Matheo’s use of typographic rules and color application represent the diversity and vibrancy of the Queer community. Each letter shifts its identity from majuscule (uppercase) to minuscule (lowercase), while bouncing along a shifting baseline to create a sense of diversity within the community and joyous musical rhythm that is a key part of Pride celebrations.
