AIGA LA’s first fieldtrip of the year is a Curator’s Tour of the International Printing Museum.

Curator Mark Barbour will give AIGA LA members a special working tour of the Printing Museum with its world-class collection of antique printing presses and typecasting machines. From hand-casting metal type and printing your own page of the Gutenberg Bible to 19th century newspaper presses and the wonderful Linotype machine of 1890, this working tour will focus on the history of type and printing processes from letterpress and engraving to lithography. Following the tour, guests will be able to have their name cast on the Linotype and Ludlow machines, print their own keepsakes on vintage presses large and small, from the Civil War-era Lowe Press to the majestic Columbian Press of 1813, using wood and metal type and historic images. Vintage typography and design books from the Printing Museum’s library will be available for AIGA members to peruse and enjoy.
