We invite you to submit your nominations for the 2019–2021 AIGA Los Angeles Board of Directors! Self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged.

As a board member, you are responsible for serving chapter members, the local design community, and being the best resource for design in Los Angeles. AIGA Los Angeles is looking for leaders and supporters of the design community to help shape the future of the Los Angeles design community. We are strong because of the passion of our board members and volunteers.

SERVING ON THE LOS ANGELES BOARD

Commitment: Board members commit to a two-year agreement to serve the Los Angeles chapter of AIGA. The time, motivation, and dedication shared makes a significant impact on the local community. This is hard work, requiring you to commit to the vision and needs of AIGA Los Angeles while strengthening your network with local designers and AIGA chapters around the nation. Terms will begin June 1, 2019, and end May 30th, 2021.

Responsibility: The board meets monthly to report on and develop chapter activities. While this is a “working board,” we are fiducially and strategically responsible for this 501(c)3 organization. As such, taking on a board role is a serious endeavor, replete with a large degree of responsibility for increasing the wisdom, improving the well-being, developing wonder, and improving the strength of our design community.

OPEN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITIONS FOR 2019–2021

VICE PRESIDENT

Supports chapter president in managing board members through the implementation of chapter strategy and vision.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Develops and maintains RACI and process documents for chapter
    • Oversees production of content for bi-monthly Community and annual Town Hall meetings
    • Schedules and produces annual Board Retreat, in collaboration with members of Executive Team

SECRETARY

Ensures the official board business is conducted efficiently and correctly, creating processes to streamline chapter affairs.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Develops guidelines for chapter project documentation and resource management
    • Ensures implementation of annual community survey
    • Oversees production of annual Leadership Night event & bi-annual Fellows Awards

TREASURER

Ensures fiscal responsibility for the chapter and transparency of finances to board members.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Maintains monthly oversight of chapter accounts and financial reports
    • Develops financial projections for sustaining and growing chapter finances
    • Ensures required financial forms and paperwork and organized and filed to relevant parties

OPEN DIRECTOR POSITIONS FOR 2019–2021

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

Coordinates with Executive team to ensure the direction of Marketing, Social Media, and Content teams remains aligned with chapter needs and vision.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Produce branding and communication guidelines in line with chapter goals and vision
    • Define and oversee website development and upkeep
    • Provide support for and advice on metrics of success for Content, Social Media, and Marketing strategies

CONTENT TEAM

Implements the annual program schedule and calendar (developed by the board), reflecting the vision and mission of the chapter to meets the needs of its members.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Develop & maintain calendar, schedule, and guidelines for chapter content
    • Produce monthly content email
    • Produce monthly podcast
    • Develop network of content producers, with guidelines and schedule for information

DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Facilitates and secures donations and sponsorship opportunities for companies, organizations and individuals to provide member benefits and support chapter programs.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Produce & maintain pitch decks and guidelines for sponsorships, partnerships, and affiliations
    • Secure sponsorship & partnerships contracts for venues, equipment, services, and products
    • Develop and maintain CRM document for contacts and resources

EDUCATION TEAM

Supports and maintains contact between board members and educators, young designers, student groups, student chapters, and educational programs around the city.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Produce list of design teams and organizations offering internship, mentorship, or shadowing opportunities for students and young designers
    • Maintain the network of designers and design teams available for studio tours and speaking opportunities
    • Develop resources to assist young designers in their first years of career

MARKETING TEAM

Promotes the events and initiatives of AIGA Los Angeles, it’s sponsors, and affiliates.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Develop & maintain calendar, schedule, and guidelines for campaigns across all channels
    • Produce weekly marketing email
    • Create copy & assets for marketing materials

MEMBERSHIP TEAM

Facilitates membership and community engagement through outreach campaigns, member highlights, and listening tours.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Produce annual Town Hall event (February)
    • Connects with new and lapsed Members, Student Groups, and Group Members
    • Creates monthly membership reports and community engagement reports, to inform chapter programs and content

PROGRAMMING TEAM

Implements the annual program schedule and calendar (developed by the board), reflecting the vision and mission of the chapter to meets the needs of its members.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Produce 6 3rd Wednesday events
    • Produce Fellows Awards/Gala event
    • Produce AIGA LA LA Design Festival programming

SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM

Promotes the events and initiatives of AIGA Los Angeles, it’s sponsors, and affiliates.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Develop & maintain calendar and schedule for social media campaigns
    • Produce social media guidelines & standards for content, marketing, and sponsorship
    • Create copy & assets for social media posts
    • Create monthly reports on engagement and alignment with chapter vision

ADVISORY BOARD

Provide counsel to the executive team and aid the Board of Directors in executing chapter initiatives. It is preferred but not required that advisory board members have prior experience volunteering for AIGA.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITY (at least one of these)
    • Act as advisor and mentor for at least on board member
    • Volunteer for and produce content in alignment with Content Team needs
    • Organize at least one community meeting

All nominations will be presented to the 2019 Nominating Committee, which will meet and determine a recommended slate of directors to present to the membership-at-large for approval. Nominees need not be an AIGA member at the time of nomination but will be required to join AIGA at the Supporter level if elected to a board position.
