In Memoriam: Doug Oliver

Douglas James Oliver, 63, passed away on December 18, 2014. Before moving back to the Kansas City area a couple of years ago, he had been working as a designer in Los Angeles for over 30 years. He began his professional career working with the legendary James Cross and the late Robert Miles Runyan. At Runyan, he worked on the branding of the 1984 Olympic Games and Mitsubishi. In 1983, Doug opened Morava & Oliver, and then continued Douglas Oliver Design Office (DODO) in 1992.

Doug recently returned to his alma mater, the University of Kansas, as a Hallmark Symposium speaker. He has also maintained close ties with Art Center, serving as an alumni board member, adjunct faculty member, guest speaker, and consultant. He was a leader in the design community and designed many of the most notable report projects such as Litton, Northrop Grumman, The Cheesecake Factory and more. He will be missed.
